What is the hyperfocal distance?
The hyperfocal distance is the closest focus distance at which the far limit of depth of field extends to infinity. Focus exactly there and everything from half that distance to the horizon is acceptably sharp.
How to use it
Enter your focal length, aperture and sensor format. Set your lens to the hyperfocal distance (or just past it) and shoot — this is the classic landscape technique for maximum front-to-back sharpness.
Wider lenses and narrower apertures produce a closer hyperfocal distance, which is why a 24mm lens at f/11 can keep nearly the whole scene sharp.
